Michael Rebetzke wins the 2024 REINSW Novice Auctioneers Competition

11 April 2024

MEDIA RELEASE: Six finalists battled it out yesterday at this year’s REINSW Novice Auctioneers Competition (NAC) Final. The event saw 37-year-old Michael Rebetzke from Menck White, take out the winner’s crown.

Originally from sunny Brisbane but now based in Sydney, Michael brings a unique blend of performance, sales, and business expertise to the real estate industry, despite joining it later in his career.

Working alongside Clarence White at the Menck White Team, Michael has rapidly absorbed invaluable skills such as numerical training, managing increments, and negotiating single-bidder auctions. He finds immense satisfaction in helping vendors achieve top results and buyers realize their property dreams.

The NAC is a platform for the state’s would-be and up-and-coming auctioneers to try their hand at auctioneering. Each participant auctions a luxury item of their choice in the heats, with funds raised both during the heats and the final, going directly to REINSW’s 2024 charity partner – The Royal Flying Doctor Service.

This year for the fifth year in a row, the pressure was stepped up with the finalists given an actual property to auction off – this year it was a 4-bedroom rural property in Cooranbong which sold for $1,132,000.

As the curtain draws on another fiercely contested competition, emotions run high as winner Michael reflects on the challenges and triumphs of the journey.

“It's tremendous that everyone, especially the Seniors, dedicates their time to running this competition,” said Michael. “All the competitors have been outstanding, and I don't know how I won...sheer fluke. I feel a bit emotional, to be honest. Winning means the world to me after putting in so much work.”

“People often ask me why I participate in these competitions despite their difficulty; however, the reason is clear, they provide invaluable skills through hard work, despite being so challenging.”

“Ricky Briggs' training sessions have been magnificent. I'm at the foot of the mountain, but the REINSW member auctioneers give you such a leg up and so much help with training. I'm very appreciative and grateful."

REINSW Auctioneer Chapter Committee Chairperson and competition compere Ricky Briggs was very impressed by the quality of auctioneers in yesterday’s Final.

"Each year, we witness contestants reaching new heights of quality,” said Ricky.

"This year, we travelled to six different locations across the state for the heats, and six competitors emerged today, securing remarkable positions."

"One of our best contestants today is just 17 years old. While he didn't clinch the victory, it highlights the calibre of budding auctioneers preparing to enter the industry."

"This competition serves as the epitome, the breeding ground for those truly committed to advancing their careers in auctioneering and we look forward to seeing these individuals progress through the ranks."
