Apartment energy ratings on the way

A new assessment tool is being launched in June which will enable the common areas of apartment buildings to be rated for energy and water efficiency.

The National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) has launched the Apartment Buildings tool to rate buildings on a simple six-star scale where three is average and six is market leading.

This information will help apartment owners, investors, and residents understand the performance of their building and discuss potential improvements.

NABERS currently only rates commercial buildings and has helped save more than $350 million in energy bills since 2010.

This move to rate apartment buildings is the next logical step to help raise awareness of energy efficiency as people become more conscious of the costs.
